Interesting Interview By Phonte

The following is just a snippet of an interview I was reading with 12FTDWENDE (writer D. Scott) and Phonte Coleman on Nicolay Music... Thought it was interesting what Phonte said. And the funny thing about it, IT'S TRUE...

(D. Scott asks about some new moves or motives that artists are really going to have to commit to in order to survive in this changing terrain (music wise).

Phonte: ...The biggest thing that we're fighting for now, we ain't really fighting for people's dollars, you're fighting for people's time and attention. Every time somebody open up they Internet Explorer...well, I hope they ain't using Internet Explorer....

D. Scott: *Laughs* Yuh!

Phonte: But every time they open up their internet, they're getting bombarded with Youtube links, "Check Out My Free Mixtape," check out this, check out that, so when you do finally garner people's attention and you garner their good will, you gotta do everything you can to hold on to it and the only way you can hold on to it is by constantly keeping them in mind and thinking like a fan...

Final Day To Vote/Recommend On John's Photo Contest...

...Yes, that's right. It's about to wind down; the voting/recommending ENDS TODAY! So, stop what you're doing for a moment and head to the site (click the photo below to direct you to the site) and vote for 'jvordonia' and recommend his album profile AND photos that he has sent for the contest--All you do is click 'recommend'. This would really mean a lot to him if you would just take a little bit of your time to vote/recommend. He NEEDS YOUR HELP! He needs all the recommends he can get to win the contest. But of course, it's not all about the winning. My best friend John is a freelance photographer and he just does his best to show-off and share his talent to everyone and anyone. He's doin' this for the love, for himself, and to showcase his talent. So please...would you HELP A BROTHA' OUT...?

Manila Guerilla: Philippine Red Cross Fundraiser (Swiped)

First of all, shouts to Be at TheLegendsLeague site for posting this on TheLegendsLeague blog site. We know what's goin' down back Home...and it's up to me and you to make a big difference and a huge impact in helping out our people. I know I posted up the news about the Philippines flood earlier today and provided the link to The Philipine National Red Cross; I thought I'd hit you with it again for you people out there to help out and donate for those who are in need back in the Philippines. Please help out and contribute...Hope and pray for those who are still displaced/missing...

"I will be donating 100% of profits from the sale of my Manila Guerilla tee to the Philippine Red Cross to help provide aid for the people affected by the storm that hit the Philippines with a months worth of rain in just 6 hours and caused the worst flooding the country has seen in 42 years.

I will be making personal contributions in the form of a box full of IdeallClothing tees, but I’m in no position to be throwing thousands of dollars out in donation. This is where I need your help and support. In the spirit of TheLegendsLeague and paying our lives forward I am hoping that your purchase of one of our Manila Guerilla tees will provide you the opportunity to wear something as a proud sign that when someone else was in need, you played a role in offering your hand in assistance."

To purchase the T-Shirts, just click the image above to direct you to the Ideall Clothing store in which you can do your part in helping out the people of the Philippines...Besides, those shirts are not too shabby if I say so myself.

Here's upcoming artist from the TDot (big-up) Melanie Fiona with a brand new video titled "It Kills Me" off her debut album (pushed back, again...drops November 3rd) The Bridge. This video serves further proof that this album is HARD and is one of the most anticipated and strongest releases I've probably ever heard right now...But you know, you don't have to take my word for it. Check the vid...And check the LP when that drops...

In Spain In The Membrane

I'm actually feeling much better, compared to the past few days (boo). I'm still a little cold-sick, however, but gone is the congestion, i.e., nose, throat, and chest. The coughing has subsided a lot, but still whips a little cough here and there...but I CAN SMELL THINGS NOW. And my sore throat is gone. Which is a BIG plus. I hate having a sore throat...Worst feeling ever, to me at least. Anyways, as I'm coolin' it out here in the pad...this episode of No Reservations was on today--and it's one of many episodes that are my favorite. Tony visits Spain...'Nough said. Just watch these first 20 minutes or so...I think you'll know why it's my favorite...

P.S. For those that don't know already, my blog is being fed through Facebook every time I post up blog posts. So don't think I'm on the 'Book every single minute of the day and night (you crazy??) But whenever I embed videos, Facebook seems to deny the videos I add on my post...So what that means...It won't show on Facebook (via notes). So if you do want to view my posts in its ENTIRETY, I suggest you visit my blog instead, and to view posts embedded with videos to get the full experience. Okay, that was just a little P.S.A. for ya'll. I'm off. Peace.

Lucy of 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' fame dies

AP, Sep 28, 2009 10:00 am PDT

Lucy Vodden, who provided the inspiration for the Beatles' classic song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds," has died after a long battle with lupus. She was 46.

Her death was announced Monday by St. Thomas' Hospital in London, where she had been treated for the chronic disease for more than five years, and by her husband, Ross Vodden. Britain's Press Association said she died last Tuesday. Hospital officials said they could not confirm the day of her death.

Flooding In The Philippines

As I've heard yesterday, at least 83 people were killed, and possibly at least hundreds more were also killed, and nearly 300,000 are displaced/missing after tropical Ketsana ripped through Manila causing the worst flooding seen nearly half a century...Please help and pray...

"You know The ILLS of the World, they can get you down...But then we get back UP."

The Mayer LIVE At The Dark Room, Chicago

This past Friday, the 25th, Mayer Hawthorne dropped by to give the Chicago people a taste from this Stones Throw Records artist a run for their drinks and whatnot. Shouts to RTC at Ruby Hornet who shot some dope footage of that night and this year's breakthrough artist. Here's some vids of the event. Man...I wish I could've came out and dropped by. Unfortunately, I was sick--and still sick...a little bit--but it's all good though. But big-up to The Audacity Of Dope for posting up this blog post to share. The vids below recalls the event that night...

The Roots - How I Got Over

Their brand new studio LP--a celebratory album--has now been pushed back 'til November 17th. No problem...I can wait. The Roots are ever-so hardworking and it's no problem for me that I can wait for this. However, I can't wait for how it will sound like. Below is a little trailer for their new single and title track, that's been out for some time now, "How I Got Over". And according to Okayplayer, The Roots are prepping for tonight's VH1's Hip-Hop Honors...

Ms. Hill, We Miss You...

A Cacophony

Very few people know this...my ultimate, favorite hero has got to be BATMAN...HANDS DOWN. I don't care, hate me or not...I don't care. Dude is a bad-mother. No special powers of any kind or whatever...just pure...HUMAN. Straight-up. Forget your heros (no offense or anything). So, I saw this at Borders awhile ago...I WANT IT; BATMAN: CACOPHONY by Kevin Smith (on HARDCOVER, no less). Anyone want to give me this for my birthday, too...?

Diggin' At The Record Sto'

Got to get this out of the way first...I'm looking forward for the new Emanon project (Aloe Blacc & Exile). If you don't know what's up, check out Okayplayer for some goodies on that one...(Check out audio: "Very First Time" and "Houston" produced by Exile)...

It's like almost every week or almost every day/other day I'm out digging. It's usually headin' out to the usual spots that I dig for records and sometimes it could be on the 'Net. Whatever it may be, I'm ALWAYS digging for some new ish; new, used, never heard before, etc. Here's a taste of what I'm lookin' forward to...

Okay, Hold Up, Hold Up.

Hold on a minute. This bugs me. I don't understand all these applications and widgets that are on Facebook or any other social networking site. This is all useless, pointless stuff that's on there. Why would you waste your time or life on those *expletive* apps!? I mean, what's all this Farmville *expletive*!? What's all the hype about them...!? Like, really! I don't get it. Every *expletive* time I log on to check what's happenin' on Facebook...I see nothin' but walls and walls of all this Farmville crap and all these other applications and widgets. Me, myself...I ain't lettin' them shine at all. Not all that hyped about it...And my whole life and time does not revolve around Facebook. Shoot...I was convinced--FORCEFULLY--to get on Facebook to keep in touch with the fam and friends. That's it. Do I like to be on Facebook...? Not too much, really...But I'm definitely not like the other losers out there (pardon me). Is it really all that? Is it really all that necessary...? Don't get me on it, 'cause I ain't gettin' on that tip. Hate me or love me, I don't really care, but shoot...this is rediculous.

Not to complain, but I'm definitely not gettin' on that bandwagon. That's word, my friends...

Where The Wild Things Are

Spike Jonze hit it with this one. Definitely. This is one movie that I want to watch--among the other movies that I've missed lately, like 9...

Taking No Chances.

Today was just a chill day. Nothing really elaborate or anything. Just a normal Monday afternoon, but cooled out with my mom.

I decided that I wanted a flu shot, so I got one today--I ain't takin' any chances gettin' sick. No way, buddy! I've also decided that I wanted the H1N1 vaccine shot--and no, I don't have the Swine Flu...I just wanna be safe, that's all. But they don't have the vaccine yet...so I probably have to wait 'til next month some time. But definitely gettin' it. Like I said, I ain't takin' any chances gettin' sick! So I got the flu shot at Lake Forest Hospital and it was fairly quick. After that, I was hungry. I wanted sushi, but both sushi bars here in my area were temporaraliy closed to prep up for dinner. I was craving for sushi, but I couldn't wait...So I decided to head out to eat some seafood---that, too, I was craving--so, we went to Joe's. Yum. And there, that's it...I'll just let the photos take over from here...

No Reservations Wins An Emmy!

I Told You I Smelled Emmy!

By Anthony Bourdain on September 14, 2009 9:49 AM

Saturday night at the 61st Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, my long suffering friends and colleagues Todd Liebler and Zach Zamboni-who, for the last few years have sacrificed anything resembling normal lives to follow me around the world pointing cameras in my general direction-scored a major upset victory by bringing home the award for cinematography in the non-fiction category. Todd, who has garnered a not entirely undeserved worldwide reputation for stumbling into things, bounded up to that stage with astounding speed and grace-suddenly, a veritable Nijinsky, sure footedly making what was easily one of the smoothest, nicest, most coherent and entertaining acceptance speeches of the night. Zach, who hardly got a word in, managed to look very dashing in his tuxedo. The two of them spent the rest of the evening basking happily in the admiring praise of other directors of photography, camera operators and cinematographers, few of whom have likely had to make do with a bag of risotto on a skateboard as a camera platform. It was the greatest thing I've seen in a very long time and I am over the moon with happiness for them. Of the three Emmys we were nominated for-this was the one I wanted to win badly. All you have to do is compare the looks of season one-with those of recent seasons to see how hard these guys work, how monstrously talented they are-and how much they've been able to do with so very little.

When Remixes Pass, And When Remixes Fail.

Some songs should be touched--and they work! But some songs should never be touched--lots of them had never worked! However, Beatnick & K-Salaam are no exception to any song selection, genre, and artist to create wonderful remixes. Next week (9/24) Beatnick & K-Salaam will release Never Can Say Goodbye courtesy of Okayplayer. The project is basically a remix album of classic material from Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, and Marvin Gaye--who doesn't love these artists!? ...And it's B&K mixing and remixing them up! So tune in next week to Okayplayer to grab it when it drops...
